Lake trout are the undisputed main event out of Buckboard right now. The system is currently holding a massive population of juvenile lake trout (often referred to as "puppies" in the 18 to 24-inch range). These aggressive eaters are schooling heavily and pushing baitfish into the bays and along the main channel drop-offs. The trophy-class Mackinaw (30+ pounds) are also beginning their pre-spawn staging, moving up from the deep summer basins toward rocky shoals and points in 40 to 60 feet of water.
